Ramona Ranch Banner - Wine Barrel and Bottle

Our History

When we  moved to Ramona in 2004, we knew we wanted to live an agricultural lifestyle, but were not sure what exactly that would be. Teri knew she wanted to raise chickens, garden and have a horse, which we’d both been lucky enough to do growing up near the Oregon coast. After noticing the new vineyards around Ramona, we saw a notice for a meeting of the Ramona Valley Vineyard Association (RVVA) where we found a warm and welcoming group that continues to meet on a monthly basis. It was then when we discovered that wine was our calling and a dream was born to being making wine, offering Agrotourism and Wine Experiences and more.

The Winery

Ramona Ranch Winery was founded in 2004. In 2006 we planted our first vines at Ramona Ranch – a small test vineyard of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Tempranillo, Merlot, and Mouvedre. We expanded our larger vineyards on the property in 2010, consisting of Tannat, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Symphony, with more to come.

Wines, Awards, Tastings

Fast forward to today. We have been voted “Best of Ramona” for the past six years and are consistently winning medals for our handcrafted wines.  Some recent examples include our Estate Sangiovese which won Double-Gold at the prestigious Sunset Magazine International Wine Competition, and our Montepulcino that won Gold and Best of Class at the 2023 Toast of the Coast Wine Competition.

We designed and built our custom TasteSpace, opening it in the Fall of 2022, including an attached patio offering sweeping views of the beautiful Ramona Valley, and both obtained our WSET2 certifications, along with several of our team.

Events, Community, Sustainability

Beyond producing award winning wine, our passions are sustainability, travel, food and wine pairings, live music, and comradery with the other vintners in our area. For a wine region to succeed, we must take care of the land and environment, embrace each other, and work together, which is what makes the Ramona wine industry a unique community.

We encourage you to come for a visit and experience Ramona Ranch, San Diego’s first and only Certified Sustainable Vineyard and Winery, a boutique winery producing 1200 cases annually.
