Cruising along a twisty Ramona road, you might glimpse the silhouette of a rearing stallion with a stocky companion at its side. “People stop to take pictures of our ‘sculptures,’” says Teri Kerns, owner of Ramona Ranch Vineyard and Winery alongside her husband, Micole Moore.
“They are confused when the smaller one has disappeared as they drive back past the winery.” This is not a pastoral ghost story — just a goat trying to get quality time with a horse statue. “That’s why we called him Einstein,” Teri laughs. “He thinks the statue is his best friend.” (READ MORE)

Ramona Ranch receives awards for its wines
Ramona Ranch Vineyard and Winery recently received awards for its wine from the Toast of the Coast Wine Competition and Tastings.com World Wine Championships.In the 7th Annual Toast of the Coast Wine Competition, Ramona Ranch received silver medals for its 2012 Sangiovese Reserve and 2016 Chardonnay out of 772 wines from 137 wineries. The competition was judged at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, and the Ramona Ranch wines will be among wines showcased in the 7th annual Toast of the Coast Wine Festival during the 2018 San Diego County Fair. Today we’d like to introduce you to Teri Kerns.
Teri: Originally from Oregon, we ended up in Ramona, after being stationed in and around San Diego, while Teri was on active duty with the US Navy. Building our vineyards, winery and ranch from scratch started around the same time grapes began being planted again in the Ramona Valley, which was designated as a federally recognized American Viticulture Area (AVA) in 2006. Located in the San Diego foothills, we soon discovered what wine grapes grew well, and what we personally enjoy, like Sangiovese, Viognior and Tannat. (READ MORE)
Award-winning Winemakers Recognized by Representative Duncan Hunter
Three award-winning Ramona Valley winemakers were presented recognition certificates from Representative Duncan Hunter at the monthly meeting of the Ramona Valley Vineyards Association (RVVA) on Tuesday, January 26th as an indication of the quality and growth of the winemaking industry in San Diego County. Duncan Hunter has represented San Diego County in the U.S. House of Representatives for seven years and is co-chair of the Congressional Wine Caucus. (READ MORE)

Ramona Ranch Winery Estate Tannat wins Double-Gold
Tannat originates in the Basque region of France near the Pyrenees, ironically the same area our dog, Echo (a great Pyrenees) comes from. We fell in love with Tannat when we first tasted it on a trip to Amador County. Tannat is rarely planted in the US, but has moved from France to Uruguay, where it’s considered their National Grape. By the time this issue is settled, everyone is going to want a drink. But the question is whether that beverage will be a glass of red made by a boutique winery with grapes grown in San Diego County, or if that wine will come from a local business that trucks in bulk wine from around the world, puts it into bottles and sells it with its own name on the label.
